The Poconos Mountains are one big amusement park.
Activities are scattered throughout the 2400 square miles of the region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Big Bass Lake is located in a tier between the two areas and is more isolated than most Poconos neighborhoods.
Thus, the original developers choose to “over amenity” the community. Since, Big Bass is about 13 miles from civilization, the developers (The Larson Brothers) decided to put every amenity that people wanted (at the time of development in the 1970s) into the community. Ski hill, indoor and out door pools, tennis, fitness center, beaches, lakes, kids play areas and gates.
Big Bass Lake is located between the more southern tier along Rt I-80 which we call the “Ski region” since all of the major ski resorts are located here. and the northern region we call the “lake region” which is along Rt I-84 with no major ski resorts, but more and larger lakes.
